Sliders with Tomato Aioli for President's Choice Review

Sliders with Tomato Aioli

As a member of BloggerAid-Changing the Face of Famine's project View and Review I was excited when I had the opportunity to receive products from Presidents Choice, Loblaw's and it's partners. View and Review is a fun and exciting aspect of BloggerAid-CFF where our members have the opportunity to review cookbooks and products from the world over. We all get together and have a little fun while continuing to raise awareness for world hunger.  After all, most of our members are food bloggers and what's more important than food!!!!

It is also fitting that today as food bloggers we should raise awareness in our own communities especially for our local food banks. Today is Hunger Awareness Day here in Canada  which you can read all about over at Ruth's fabulous blog Once Upon a Feast.

What I love about President's Choice is their involvement in another charitable organization with their role as President's Choice® Children’s Charity . They have increased their support to Breakfast for Learning to $7.2 million. Breakfast for Learning provides nutrition programs to help children and youth across the country receive healthy breakfasts, lunches and snacks to help fuel a better learning environment.
I was excited, as you can imagine, when there was a knock on my door and a package arrived from the President's Choice label. As of May 21st Loblaws is hosting Canada's Biggest BBQ Tour from coast to coast. This summer they are calling all Canadians from coast to coast to help them celebrate the season by throwing the biggest barbecue your friends and family have ever seen.  As part of the launch a number of our members were the lucky recipients of an array of products to start the barbecue season off right! The hot and lazy days of summer are here and President's Choice wants to help kick-start our summer fun!Go to their web site and check their schedule and when they will be touring your area! You can also enter their contest!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I opened the box and there I found a two compartment cooler filled with new "Must Try" PC products. There was also a bright red apron with the President Choice logo to protect you from those barbecue sauce splatters. First thing I discovered was their Slider Thins Mini Burger Buns. You may have seen sliders at your local restaurants so one thing is clear these mini burgers are crowdpleasers.I love to make sliders for get togethers but find it difficult to find buns that are small enough to be finger size. These Slider Thins split apart similarly to English muffins so are really convenient and perfect for delicious appetizers and juicy mini burgers.

Also in my package were several glazes and marinades starting with a Balsamic Vinegar Glaze in a convenient upside down squeeze bottle. They use balsamic vinegar from Modena, Italy which is reduced to a thick, sweet and aromatic sauce perfect for a side of barbecue glazed veggies and a Maple Bacon Marinade to add a smoky flavour to chicken, steaks and pork. There was also a handy Grilling and Roasting Seasoning grinder with sea salt, mustard and coriander seeds. Grinding herbs and spices releases their aromatic flavour.

We also received a bottle of extra-virgin olive oil from Chili. Did you know that Chili won the prestigious Sol D'Oro Prize for the World's best olive oil in 2006? Olive groves have been cultivated for more than 400 years in this award winning region of Chile.

As a teaser we also found a bag of Thick Cut Ballpark Hot Dog Rippled Potato Chips. It seems that this is a new flavour combination for PC and if you love hotdogs I guarantee these will take you away to Fenway Park!!!! Also for snacking how's about some Chocolate Chip Pecan Cookies with any one of the new "Must Try" Ice Cream Shop flavoured ice cream sandwiched in between. They have 14 irresistible flavours that will bring back childhood memories.

To round out your barbecue menu try their new 100% Sparkling Fruit Juice from concentrate, a refreshing combination of juice and bubbles that will tickle your taste buds. So refreshing on these hot summer days! There are no artificial flavours or colouring, so you can feel good about sticking these in the fridge. They come in a slim can that is the ideal size for your lunches, picnics and gym bag.

So in honour of this generous package and to kick off Canada's Biggest BBQ celebration here at home I made some homemade sliders. President Choice does offer some Angus Beef Sliders but I wanted to use some of  the products I received so mixed some top quality sirloin with the Grilled and Roasting Seasoning from PC, made small 2-inch balls, flattened them in between the palms of my hands and grilled them for a few minutes on each side. I topped them with some grilled onions and a Tomato Aioli (recipe follows). The marriage of flavours in these sliders are something you must try for your next barbecue.

For this aioli I used some leftover sun-blushed tomatoes I made the other day which are basically semi-dried tomatoes. There was no need to soak them as this recipe suggests, of course if you are using sun-dried tomatoes follow this recipe as planned.

**Sun-Dried Tomato Aioli**

10-sun-dried tomatoes, packed without oil
1 cup water
1/4 cup olive oil or canola mayonnaise
black pepper
1 garlic cloves, minced

Place sun-dried tomatoes and 1 cup of water in a microwave-safe bowl; microwave on HIGH for 2 minutes. Let stand 3 minutes. Alternately boil water and add tomatoes and let stand. Drain. Place sun-dried tomatoes, mayonnaise, pepper and 1 garlic clove in a mini food processor; pulse 10 times or until tomatoes are finely chopped. Use as a topping on sliders or burgers.

  10. You know what's kind of ironic? That a person who can easily afford groceries got a basket of food for free and promoted it to blog for hunger awareness. Wouldn't it have been better if President's Choice just gave the free food directly to a family in need?

    (btw, great-looking sliders, Val!)

  11. I do appreciate your comment about President's Choice Heather. I feel the company does a lot to help the needy with their charity by contributing large sums of money to the Breakfast programs, etc. We do not have Loblaw's here but I know that their subsiduary Great Canadian Super Store here in BC donates food to the local Food Bank. I would hope that their other stores do the same in their communities across the country. The purpose of receiving the product is to promote their new products and get the word out.

  18. I haven't been getting your updates lately - so I checked back to see if you had posted anything -and there are three posts. I subscribed again. That is so weird. What a great review. Your sliders look fantastic. How did you find out who got the three packages? I tried to find that out to link on my post, but could not find the information anywhere. I was so conflicted with this package. I do shop at Superstore. It is my go-to mega store... but then, there is my foods teacher, Slow Food member, education side... it was a very difficult review for me. A great learning experience. It is so refreshing to see what you have done with it. Photos are GREAT. I didn't know about the other organization, either - so thank you.
I have missed reading you. Hopefully, we are back on track!
    :)

  19. For as many times as we can crab about how big corporations mooch mula off of our backs...they also have kind hearts. In this case...very generous indeed.
At our community center...we also had some donations from them and others too. The less fortunate are very appreciative.
Thank Val for spreading the word.
    Great topic.
BTW...anything with sun-dried tomatoes always has my attention ;o)
    Flavourful wishes, Claudia
