Bruschetta Burgers are one of my favourite ways to serve up ground round. I was feeling a little nostalgic with all this talk of childhood , so, decided on some comfort food with Cheesy Scalloped Potatoes and Bruschetta Burgers. Yes it is over 33 Celsius...and no I haven't lost my marbles... so, this is when the gas barbeque comes in very handy. Turn on only one element and create an "oven" effect. I can even brown the cheese in the toaster oven. Have to be creative to beat the heat!!
Can a burger be called a burger without the bun??
**Bruschetta Burgers**
1 egg
1/2 cup dry bread crumbs
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 tsp dried Italian herbs
1/2 tsp salt
freshly ground pepper
1 lb lean ground beef
1 tsp vegetable oil
2 tomatoes, chopped
half sweet green pepper, chopped
1 small onion, chopped
1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
1/2 cup shredded Provolone of mozzarella cheese
**************
In bowl, whisk together egg, bread crumbs, garlic, 2 T water, herb seasoning and half each of the salt and pepper; add beef and mix well to form patties.
In ovenproof skillet, heat oil over medium-high heat; fry patties until bottoms are browned, about 6 minutes. Turn, cook for 2 minutes.
Meanwhile, in bowl, mix together tomatoes, green pepper, onion, parsley, and remaining salt and pepper. Spoon onto patties; sprinkle with cheese. Broil 4 inches from heat and broil until cheese melts and patties are no longer pink inside, about 4 minutes.

What a great idea for a burger! I can't wait to give this a try.
ReplyDeleteYes, it can definitely be a burger with a bun!! This looks really good!
ReplyDeleteOf course you can have a burger without a bun. Actually that is the way we usually do eat them. That way there is room for 2! And yes, we still put all of the same toppings on them, just no bread.
ReplyDeleteYum, I can smell them sizzeling on the grill right now!
