Yesterday was the event we wait all year round for, the one that heralds in Spring. It's not the robins return, or the golf courses being open or even the blossoms of the cherry tree...but the Taste of Kelowna that signals Spring and awakens all our senses. True to form it was a gorgeous sunny day; not that it really mattered because we were indoors. I did have to go for a walk afterwards though to ward off all the food away from my hips!
For the past 3 years the girls and I have headed to the Taste of Kelowna event. It is put on by the BC Restaurant & Foodservices Association (BCRFA) and is in it's 19th year. The event moved from the Grand Okanagan Hotel to the curling club in 2007 to accommodate the ever increasing size of the crowds. Over 4,000 visitors attended last year.
Some of my favourite dishes this year were ; Grilled Lamb Pops with Asian Cashew Salad, Organic Celeriac Puree with Cheddar Crisp and S'more Mousse (pictured below).

What a neat event! It must be so nice to sample such diverse and interesting food and beverages and at the same time give to a really good cause.
ReplyDeleteThat would be so much fun. Particularly with all of the great wineries in your region.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful event and for such a good cause. Wish I was there to go with you. Those dishes look sooooo gooooood!
ReplyDeleteOh wow. What an amazing event! You are soooo lucky. I think I'm coming to visit. Beautiful photos, Val!
ReplyDeleteYou're spoiled having all that great local wine. We're having our wine & cheese show soon, I just might go and take a cab back home!
ReplyDeleteI love these events and I'm especially impressed at the time of year. Many of the events we have in Ontario happen in the dead heat of summer so the combination of the throngs of people and the humid heat make it much harder to enjoy the fun of the event. I'll be in the cab with Peter on the way home from the wineries...hic
ReplyDeleteI do love these sorts of events. Lucky you! The lamb pops sounded especially yummy.
ReplyDeleteSounds like such fun! I wish we had something similar in our area (but i live in podunk)
